Ashford District had extra reason to be proud at this year’s Kent International Jamboree, with our very own Andy Trill serving as Camp Chief for the entire event. Under his leadership, KIJ ’25 brought together 7,000 people from 32 different countries for a week of adventure, friendship, and unforgettable experiences.

A contingent of 85 young people and 25 Leaders proudly represented our District at the event, joining participants from around the world. Our Explorers enjoyed an incredible camping experience, sharing their site with nine Explorers and four leaders from Alberta, Canada— something that perfectly captured the Jamboree's international spirit. Adding to the occasion, the Ashford Central Explorer Scouts (A.C.E.S) Leaders had the honour of investing five new Explorers, marking a significant milestone in their Scouting journey.

Meanwhile, nine Leaders from Ashford District took charge of the 4x4 Extreme Off-Road Experience. Over the course of the week, they completed more than 1,000 laps of the course, giving over 6,000 young people a thrilling off-road adventure. Their skills were even called upon for a special assignment— driving VIPs around the track, including the Mayor of Maidstone.

Throughout the week, our young people threw themselves into an impressive range of activities that pushed boundaries and created lifelong memories. From rock climbing and abseiling to microlighting and tomahawk throwing, our Scouts and Explorers stepped outside their comfort zones, forging lasting connections with Scouts from around the world. Their enthusiasm also caught the attention of BBC Radio Kent and BBC South East, who interviewed them about their KIJ experience.

The evenings were just as action-packed as the days. Daily live performances from the main stage kept the energy high across the camp, while our older members danced the night away in the 14-17 club with themed nights, including silent discos, beach parties, and a drag night. Adult volunteers weren’t forgotten either, with the Leaders' bar hosting its own entertainment, featuring quiz nights and silent discos.

The closing ceremony provided a fitting end to an extraordinary week. Headlined by the popular band Scouting for Girls, the evening concluded with an incredible fireworks display that lit up the Kent skyline.

The Jamboree demonstrated everything that makes Scouting special: adventure, friendship, personal challenge, and community spirit. The week   reinforced the values of Scouting while providing our young people with friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

The next Kent International Jamboree will take place in 2029, welcoming young people aged 10 - 17.
